New Zealand Is Perfect For Couples
Looking for 5 perfect spots in New Zealand for a couple to visit? Beautiful New Zealand has those, and many more! Famous for being home to green, rolling hills, the rugby-conquering All Blacks, fascinating Maori culture and, er, hobbits, this small, welcoming and diverse country has plenty to offer to couples looking for an adventure down under. Here we have picked out our favorite five places to explore with your significant other, and some essential top tips.
1. Auckland
If you’re flying in from overseas, you are likely to arrive at Auckland airport. A lot of tourists head straight off to explore the open countryside that New Zealand is famed for, stopping one or two nights at most. However, there is plenty to see in the compact yet notoriously hilly city.
Enjoy the cafes and bars of the Wynyard Quarter, down by the harbour, hop on a ferry over to Devonport for a wander around this idyllic seaside spot, then take in sunset, or even enjoy dinner with a view at the top of the Sky Tower before a night of bar-hopping in trendy Ponsonby, or on the famous Karagahape Road.
2. Cape Reinga
The most northerly point of New Zealand’s North Island, Cape Reinga is famed for its stunning views out over the point where two oceans meet, as the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean collide. As well as watching the waters mix, you can learn about the cultural significance of the spot, as it is where Maori people believe their soul travels after their death, before it leaps off the cliffs and journeys across the sea to their homeland.
3. Taupo
With a small-town vibe and a stunning blue lake, Taupo is a fantastic place to relax for a few days. If you’re feeling energetic, and weather conditions permit, this is the place to stay to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a challenging yet rewarding hike across the mountain range that featured as Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings movies! Afterwards, treat tired legs to a soak in the nearby natural hot springs.
4. Kaikoura
This sleepy beach town on the east coast of the South Island is famous for the best-tasting crayfish in New Zealand, but, if that’s not your thing, there is plenty more to be getting on with. The area has amazingly diverse marine life, and you have a high chance to make some special memories spotting fur seals relaxing on the rocks, dolphins leaping in the water, and maybe even a whale or an albatross if you catch a boat trip out on the sea.
5. Queenstown
It wouldn’t be a complete list without a mention of Queenstown! Everyone’s favorite NZ city nestles in an idyllic spot beside Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Whilst there’s plenty happening in town, with a lively restaurant and dining scene, it’s also an ideal base for getting out and about in the surrounding mountains or relaxing with a view to die for at a romantic hot pool spa.
So there you have it, our top five spots for couples to visit in New Zealand. Of course, there is plenty more to see and do in NZ, but hopefully, these ideas will help you in planning your perfect trip together.
Cheers
