Egypt Travel Top Tip: Is Abu Simbel Worth It?
We Answer the Question Many Egypt Travelers Want To Know
Abu Simbel is not easy or inexpensive to get to. From Aswan, you can expect your journey there to begin with a 4 am wake up call, a 4:45 am pick up, and a 3 hour car or van journey to cover the 275 kms. And the rigorous tour there and back will set you back about $120 per person. So, you might be thinking, “I’ll be seeing lots of temples and tombs in Aswan and Luxor, do I really need to spend the $$ and make the effort?” The answer is unequivocally – YES!
Abu Simbel Is The Very Best Carved Temple
After doing the complete tourist circuit in Luxor and Aswan, Abu Simbel stands out for its unbelievable Wow Factor. The scale is monumental. Then add into your amazement the feat of raising the monument (and its neighboring Temple of Nefertari) to save them from submersion in Lake Nasser (created by the Aswan High Dam in 1967.)
Egypt has many unbelievable treasures you’ll talk about for years, but I think Abu Simbel will leave you speechless. So, yes it’s worth the longish drive from Aswan. Or you can fly there from Aswan or Cairo.
