Horseback Safari: Taking One With Your Valentine is SUPER Romantic!
Watch Our Horseback Safari Video Below – Then Let The Horse Be With You!
Elaine and I just returned from a great safari odyssey in South Africa. One of the most unique and really romantic experiences we had was taking a horseback safari at Mabula Game Lodge. In all our years of going on safari, this was a first for us. There’s just nothing like the feeling of belonging you get when your animal is calmly walking through a herd of wildebeest, or the thrill of a little danger as your horse sidles up to a rhino. When you share the thrill with a partner, it turns into a romantic escapade you’ll always remember.
How Do You Do It?
Mabula is a comfortable and affordable safari lodge with plenty of amenities. You’ll do the standard open vehicle safaris every morning and evening, which are always great, and which are included in the price (as are all meals). So you just add on the horseback safari whenever you feel like doing that instead. The horses are really well cared-for, docile and well-trained, plus the guides are very professional and knowledgeable. Karen, the lady who runs the safari stables, knows her business. Just watch our video below to get the feeling of what it’s like.
Where is This?
Mabula Game Lodge is a luxury game lodge set in a large game reserve in the Waterberg Mountains about 2 hours north of Johannesburg, South Africa. There are nonstop flights from New York and Atlanta to Johannesburg, so it’s easy to get to. There are all kinds of game viewing options, from jeeps to horseback safaris to quad bikes and even hot air balloons. Whichever you take, you’ll see an incredible variety of wildlife. The reserve is malaria-free, which is handy. You won’t see the vast herds as you would in Kruger National Park, but you’ll get up close and personal with lots of wild animals.
How Much Is This?
Airfare to Johannesburg can be surprisingly low, depending on the season. The cheapest flight we have taken was a $599 round trip special on South African Airways, but generally, expect to pay about $800- $1200, depending on the season. All inclusive accommodation at Mabula, including jeep safaris and all meals, starts at about $250 per night at their Kwafubsei tented camp, or about $350 at their main lodge. Prices go higher by season, so look for specials on the website. The horseback safari was a $27 add-on, and for a lifetime experience, it was a steal. You can find out more or book at mabula.com.
